Green Building Certification
As green building grows in popularity, so does the scrutiny of green certifications. Make sure your project has the credibility of an accredited third-party verifier to back it up.
Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC)
The Florida Green Building Coalition is a nonprofit Florida corporation dedicated to improving the built environment. Their mission is "to provide a statewide green building program that defines, promotes, and encourages sustainable efforts with environmental and economic benefits."
The FGBC currently have 5 certification programs to cover the range of possible development projects. The programs that we provide services for are:
- Green Home Standard
- Green Commercial Buildings Standard
- Green High RIse Standard
The FGBC also provides a list of green product providers on their website. This database is provided to help promote the green industry in Florida and does not represent an endorsement of the provider by FGBC.
National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
The National Association of Home Builders is helping its members move the practice of green building into the mainstream. The NAHB Green Building Program is your guarantee of an authentically green home that's built the way you want. We provide 3rd party verification of homes under NAHB's two separate scoring paths:
- National Green Building Standard - This is an ANSI approved green building standard that includes single & multi-unit homes, site development and residential remodeling projects.
- Model Green Home Building Guidelines - This was first published in 2005 to provide guidance for builders interested in building green. These guidelines only cover single-family homes. (click here for a pocket checklist)
NEW - Dual Certification: National Green Building Standard™ with the Builders Challenge
The National Green Building Program is incorporating an energy efficiency label along with green building through a dual certification process. The NAHB Research Center is currently modifying the scoring tool to include Builders Challenge. (click here for a technical bulletin from the U.S. Department of Energy)
